Our History

Today’s brokers in marine and transport insurance inherit a long and rich professional tradition.

Institutionalized under Colbert, the profession was entrusted to a handful of firms designated as ministerial officers until 2001, the majority based in France’s major ports.

These specialists laid the foundations for the sector and handed down their knowledge from generation to generation.

Some of these firms remain independent, while others have become part of generalist brokers with a wider scope.

In 1979, the marine and transport insurance brokers decided to come together and create a professional association, the GPCAM (Groupement Professionnel des Courtiers d’Assurances Maritimes et transports).

In 2006, the GPCAM became the UCAMAT, the Union of Marine, Aviation and Transport Insurance Brokers.
